Remix: Mission – Service (Doulos)

Service - True North will be a place that unashamedly challenges people to live lives of complete service - in our relationships, our community, and our world.

At True North Church we think that the way a person lives is just as important as the message that we speak. That's why we stress and encourage people to live lives that are on mission in the world. We believe that when the living Jesus is "put into action" that our relationships, our community, and our world are stronger and healthier.

Personal Relationships
We believe that it's okay to challenge people to leverage their relationships for eternal purposes. The primary means of spreading our message and developing faith in others is through our friendships and connections.

Community
We believe that we can make a difference where we live by serving the people in our community. True North is partnering with two local organizations With Love From Jesus and Basic Needs Ministry as another way for people to reach out to others beyond our church community.

World
We believe that we can make a profound impact on the lives of other people who live around the world. We can't solve all of the problems that exist, but we can make a definite difference in a specific location. True North has financially partnered with a missionary in Kenya and with Dare to Share - Zimbabwe as a way to make a difference globally, one person at a time.

When a young associate asked Bill Hybels if he felt a little guilty asking people to serve at Willow Creek Church, Hybels replied:

You and I get to invite these people to be used by God in ways they never imagined. We have the opportunity to empower them to develop gifts they didn't know they had. We can cheer them on as they courageously assume new levels of Kingdom responsibility that fill their hearts to overflowing. And we get to see the look on their faces when they realize God has used them to touch another human being. No, I never really feel guilty inviting people to become volunteers in our church. Never.

I encourage you to use your gifts to serve at True North. When you do serve, you take partial ownership in every life that is changed and every baptism that occurs. It is in those moments that your efforts bare fruit in your life as well as others.

How do you think we are doing in the area of service?
Are we over achievers, under achievers, just right?
What are you currently doing to help?
Do you have ideas for areas of improvement?
